Sweet Pea Atkinson is one of the greatest living soul singers. A charter member of Was (Not Was) for 27 years, he's also recorded with Bonnie Raitt, Michael McDonald, Solomon Burke, Bob Dylan, Elton John, Iggy Pop, Khaled, Keb Mo, Bob Seger, Leonard Cohen, The Boneshakers and Willie Nelson. For the last decade, he's also toured as a regular member of Lyle Lovett's band.

Sweet Pea's first Wasmopolitan single is a cover of the old LTD hit, "Back in Love Again". Look closely - the drummer on the session is James Gadson. He's played on some of the greatest records in R&B history including Marvin Gaye's "I Want You" and Bill Withers’ "Use Me"!

By bix171 on September 16, 2007, at 9:47PM PST I just heard this on Harry Shearer's "Le Show" and freaked! I look every week on iTunes for Sweet Pea's "Don't Walk Away" and something new from Was (Not Was) so hearing this (it's great, by the way, funky and, to quote Don Was in an old interview, "cut without bullshit") really has got me hopped-up. I was sorry they canceled their Chicago show this past summer but I'm glad to see Was (Not Was) has something coming out next year. This site is a dream come true!
